Floor Sanding
I sand your floors with various grades of sandpaper using professional sanding equipment manufactured by world leaders in dust free sanding technology LAGLER .
This is the process:
I fix any loose floorboards and countersink any protruding nails, then I remove any tacks or staples.
The entire floor is then hoovered.
The sanding process begins with a Lagler Hummel belt sander first with a coarse grit and then progressively finer grits until a smooth finish is produced ready for staining or varnishing. The room is sanded usually with three different grades of sandpaper, up to six times depending on the condition of the floor.
After the initial sand to remove any old varnish, paint etc minor repairs and filling of cracks etc are carried out using a mixture of LERCOL cellouse mixed with fine sawdust. The advantage of this filler over filler brought from DIY stores is it drys very quickly and can be stained or painted.
After filling gaps/cracks etc sanding is again carried out.
One the room is sanded to a satisfactory finish with the belt sander I sand all the edges of the room, up to the skirtings with a high powered orbital sander. Again the sanding is done three times with progressively finer grits until the edges blend in with the main room. This machine is also dust free, but due to the nature of edge sanding a minimal amount of dust is generated.
Then I hand scrape any remaining residue off all the corners of the room by hand firstly with a tungsten scraper, and then a Fein delta corner sander.
Finally, the room is hoovered again before the process of staining or varnishing.

Floor Varnishing
After sanding I throughly clean the floor of any loose sawdust by sweeping and hoovering, the floor is then wiped over with a special cloth to completely remove any debris. The floor is then varnished with Bona professional water based wood varnish to produce a warm smooth finish.
I use Bona floor varnish as it is extremely hard wearing and produces a beautiful long lasting finish.I cal also stain the floor with Ronseal Hard as Diamond floor varnish. For commercial areas I use Bona industrial Lacquer which is very hard wearing and designed for high foot fall.

Gap Filling
Any gaps in floorboards can be filled by two methods;by using thin wooden strips of either mdf or hardboard or by mixing fine sawdust with a resin binder to fill the gaps.

Minor Repairs
Minor repairs are carried out prior to sanding and include fixing loose boards, knots, cracks etc.
